Motor Vehicle Claims

  • a) Exchange Particulars of Parties Involved in the Accident and take note of the vehicle numbers (Including their names, NRIC/FIN, telephone number, address, and insurer details)
    b) Take photos of the scene of the accident and the damages to all vehicles (Key items to include are: i) Damages on your vehicle and the other vehicle, ii) car plate numbers, iii) skid marks, iv) damaged properties, v)intersections, vi) direction of traffic, vii)debris on the road, viii) the surrounding area of the accident)
  • Call the Insurer’s Hotline for a Tow-Truck or further advice on the accident.
  • The first part of the process will involve getting a tow-truck to take your vehicle to an Authorized Reporting Center (ARC), regardless of whether it’s damaged or not within 24 hours.
  • Report the accident to both your Insurer and PCMI Insurance brokers within 24 Hours of the accident.
    If you do not report an accident to the insurer,
    a. Your insurer may repudiate liability.
    b. Your No-Claims Discount may be docked upon the renewal of your policy; and
    c. Your insurer may cancel or refuse to renew your policy.
  • If there are injured parties in an accident, call for medical assistance and the police immediately.
  • Make a Traffic Police report (You can do this at a Police Station or via Traffic Accident Report (police.gov.sg)) as soon as possible or within 24 hours of the accident if the accident involves:
    a. Fatality;
    b. Damage to government property;
    c. Foreign vehicle;
    d. Pedestrian or cyclist;
    e. Hit-and-run case; or
    f. Injury cases where
    i. at least one person involved in the accident was taken to hospital from the accident scene by an ambulance/ self-conveyed; or
    ii. any party involved in the accident was injured and obtained outpatient medical leave for 3 days or more.
  • Important points to note:
    a) Do not admit liability to anyone verbally or in writing at any stage.
    b) Do not sign any documents from anyone before reading the content.
    c) If there is a private settlement, please ensure the private settlement letter has been signed and presented to the insurer to ensure the other party does not go back on his words.
    d) Even if the parties agree to a private settlement, a report to the respective insurers is still required for record purposes.
    e) In cases where there is no damage to your vehicle, you are still required to make a report to the insurer.
    f) Filing a Traffic Police report is not equivalent to making a report to your insurer. Please note that after filing a Traffic Police report, you are also required to report to your insurer within 24 working hours or by the next working day.
